Welcome Back to Writing With Sprinkle! I'm your resident blogger BH Sprinkle here to talk all things books. Writing them, reading them, and just plain wishing for that in-home library. Ahh.

This isn't about dream homes such as enormous castles or comfortable cottages, or about home libraries.

It's a book review of the famous work, Dracula by Bram Stoker.

Fangs In First Thoughts

Honestly, it's one of those reads I'd be meaning to get around to but never quite got to. I had been also worried again because it is horror, yet old school horror in particular I'm finding is a lot more bearable. Less gore. More fade to black mystery. Which is definitely better for me.

That's exactly what Dracula is. It feeds in the eerie vibes without being in your face about it. Gives a sense of mystery or "lurking in the shadows" type stuff.

Especially enjoyed those types of scenes.

Warning ⚠️: This Review May Contain Spoilers If You Like Me Waited Forever To Read Dracula.

Best Parts

First thing I thoroughly enjoyed was at the very start as Harker is going to see Dracula at the castle about the estate. He gets all kinds of red flags but despite the discomfort he slices it up as a locals thing. He doesn't understand the danger. Which he definitely knows about later.

Harker later does make it. If you've read it you're aware but he doesn't quite seem the same. He's traumatized and tried not to dwell on the events in order to be able to move on with his life.

Then the situation with Lucy.

Dripping In Mindful Quotes

There are so many thought provoking lines within the text itself.

One such of these are:

"No man knows till he has suffered from the night how sweet and how dear to his heart and eye the morning can be."

Another such:

"It is so hard to accept at once any abstract truth, that we may doubt such to be possible when we have always believed the ‘no’ of it; it is more hard still to accept so sad a concrete truth..."

[Van Helsing to Dr.Seward]

In The End Of My Mind

Overall, there's a reason (several in fact) why this is at the top of the horror genre and known to be such a classic.

I enjoyed it.

If you haven't read it yet up until now, as I have, then I think it's worth you looking into.

If you have but haven't enjoyed it, try again.

If you enjoyed reading it already, here's your sign for a re-read.
