Bias in Writing Community

There's been a lot of controversy on the topic of whether or not people are writing diverse enough. The concept of whether or not a book is bias in any sort of way.

But the true nature of stories lies within the imagination should not be taken for such as more than just that. If you are writing anything biased on purpose to be biased than you should be judged based on that. However if you are not, and are just writing based out of the imagination and how you envisioned the world that you were creating, then it gets read into a lot more while people are searching for hidden meanings.

As someone who is just trying to break out into the writing community more but has been writing all of my life, I've noticed a lot of contemplation about people's works of art. About people's works of fiction.

I thought about the statement that you write what you know. I'm goingto be sure to tell you that I write what I don't know. Or at least I write from what's in my head or what's in my mind at night when I sleep.

The people out there who are writing what they know generally get scrutinized for it. If anybody is writing anything that seems controversial then maybe they should educate themselves more.

But the basis of judging a book's characters based on color or based on personality traits is redundant because it's all just fiction. A character is too this color or is not allowed to be the certain way because they are female it's not the best way to go about judging books.

I think this should call the attention that people are definitely under-represented within the writing community. It should be addressed by Publishers as well.

However, if writers are really writing what they know and they are only of a certain categorical background and maybe that's what they should write for their books and stick to what they know. At least for now. But they should definitely educate themselves on people of different backgrounds. It's not just to help the writing but it is also to help them in life to understand other individuals.

The publishing industry should be more inclusive in what types of writers they allow to publish a book. For example the mass percentages of writers being of caucasian American or mostly male writers is absolutely ridiculous. I am all about colored women taking the change and becoming more represented within the writing community.

As for females and any people of color marginalized into a smaller category outside of the writing community it is absolutely ridiculous anyway.

Very much encourage publishers to step up and include more marginalized writers in their decisions to publish people's works. We have definitely spent too much time letting white males control the narratives of our daily lives.

With that being said I encourage everybody to control their own narratives in their very lives. If you are a female or if you are of colored background, you deserve to be heard and your stories deserve to be written. Nobody should be facing your novels worth on the color of your skin or on the gender that you are.

What is your take on this whole perspective?

Do you feel like your work is being underrepresented? Do you think it's because of your gender or race? If so why do you feel that way?

Let me know in the comments.
