Hey there Writing with Sprinkle Community! I'm BH Sprinkle!

Maybe you aren't aware, unless you've been following my journey a while as a writer and reader who's totally amazed that my love of literature is socially acceptable when it wasn't considered to be in my youth but...

I've been reviewing books more.

Under appreciated is many forms of imagination.

Starting Thoughts

When I put out a message on Twitter looking to find Arcs to read or really just anything new to read within my scope of interest, I planned to read and support other writers and authors.

I found some wonderful people.

Mark J. Engels is no exception.

He's the author of Werecats Emergent that came out on May 20th 2023.

My initial thoughts (after hearing a bit from the author and reading the blurb)were...this sounds good. Let's read it.

It didn't disappoint.

Casted Characters

Characters were well written.

The sibling dynamics were well established.

Particularly, the humor between Pawley and Tommy as well as the sadness between Ritzi and Alex.

Underrated would be the relationship Ritzi and his father share. It's a beautiful connection built in shared interests and concerns.

Ritzi happens to be my favorite character.

His ability to endlessly search for answers regarding the family Affliction himself, his sister, his niece, and (maybe) his nephew share is admirable.

Scene selection- Spoiler Free

The realization from Pawley about her transformation was excellently written.

Not knowing what the character was going through until her reflection as the creature was seen.

Scenes like this are subtle but they give the power of what's going on throughout giving it the utmost in terms of suspense.

The same can be said of multiple scenes throughout the book.

Certainly think that the scenes drew me in during the first chapter as a well executed first chapter should.

Not only did it give proper suspense and good action but proper bouts of humor between characters.

Trigger Warnings

On the part of the author they did leave a few trigger warnings in regards to the book.

This book came with the Trigger Warnings of profanity and violence.

Noticed a situation within the book with regards to one of Pawley's friends. Kidnapping situation.

Other than that I didn't see anything else with regards to any severe forum of violence. It was all purely violence due to fighting or their "affliction".

Conclusion

I enjoyed the premise of werecats rather than the drastically overplayed werewolves of most books.

Adding in the element of a foreign gang was a brilliant move on the part of the author.

If you're looking for a story with morphing of human to creature, scientific characters solving a deep issue in regards to loved ones, instincts, and time sensitive situation...this is for you.

5⭐️ read

Gratitude

Thank you so much to Mark J Engels for allowing me to read this book.

You were right to think I'd enjoy it.

It was well written and I am happy to have been given the opportunity.

Sincerely hope someone gets a copy.
