Hello!

Welcome back to Writing with Sprinkle!

I have the tremendous opportunity to talk about the newest release of a series of short stories known as "Tiny Shivers" by horror writer and YouTuber, Laura Nettles.

Thrilled to also declare that her book is available for order via Amazon.

Going into this book I was exhilarated. I've known about it and watched the work of Laura Nettles on YouTube as subscriber for quite a few years now.

Horrific Past Experiences

Going to be straight with you about this.

I was able to read an Arc before release day thanks to the generosity of the author.

I was also never so into the horror genre, but that became of Halloween festivities and the gore, heart thumping of today's movies. Somehow when it's on the page it's easier to swallow.

Decided to visit a lot of the classics recently. I am reading Dracula and going to read Frankenstein. I've also made a great many plans for the original grim tales which I own a delightful copy of. Hoping to get my hands on a copy of Dr. Jekyll and Hyde as well. I'm ashamed to say I have never read these before. But due to my cowardice, I was worried about it's effects on me.

This book came at a great time.

The time of connecting with the horror genre despite my closer ties with fantasy and sci-fi.

Initial Thoughts

Going into it I was prepared for the scare that truly helped my cowardice. Seeing it on a page helps too. I was impressed immensely by the colorful imagery. The words used to describe the events, sights, and sounds of each story were beyond brilliant.

Laura truly has skill with description and the five senses.

Favorite Stories Within

Of course, while I enjoyed the entire collection of short stories there are a few that stuck with me in my mind.

Transfigured Memory pulled me into a dream and nightmare all at once with it's intricate details of memories and soul being torn away.

Tentacles and Boomboxes brought me along for seeming innocent student fun that turned into something chilling.

Snow Drift gave the true horror of driving in the wintertime.

Decisions brought crime and justice, with human nature in the most controlled and debating manner.

Communion & Slit Pipes were in combination an eerie depiction of corruption in the most sacred and beautiful of places.

These stood out to me amongst so many other stories.

Shivers Down My Spine

Quite a few truly sent shivers down my spine. They brought me personally to the heights of fear.

Released At Last stared off as a fearful child story that turns immensely dark. The description used horrified me.

Lungs was something I took personally as I'm petrified of deep water. So much so that I regrettably can't swim. Couldn't help but feel sad for the character.

Last Photograph. I am automatically fearful of those types of things and actively avoid them. Another true test of my courage to finish the book.

This was at almost halfway into the book.

Collection of Thoughts

If you're looking for those chills. Looking to scare or torture yourself because you enjoy it. If you're a long time horror lover, someone giving it a go, or want something different ... I recommend you pick up this book.

Thank you Laura Nettles again for spooking me with your fantastic writing and allowing me to read it.
