Hardly or Never Reads

For me the genere that I hardly reach for when reading is most likely the same thing as the book that I don't pick up at all.

I generally don't pick up any books with a lot of gore or horror themes. I'm very sensitive when it comes to those sorts of things. Violence isn't something that naturally should be condoned although I don't so much mind in things like action or other genres because it's usually they only down played. In those things it's like whodunnit situation. But in horror you see all the worst possible nightmare stuff coming to life within the amount of words between the pages. Horror films are even worse because you're actually seeing it with your own two eyes.

As you've probably guessed I'm not a big fan of Halloween. Definitely not one of my favorite seasons.

There is also a line of cliche in the genre. Like the fact that nobody in the story knows what they're doing. Let's go visit the haunted cemetery, why not? Let's go check out that abandoned mansion. The bad guy is chasing us are we going to trip on a rock or a hole. It takes place in nearly all of the places to avoid: cemetery, attic, basement, forest, small town, while camping, and other situations. If any of them had gone since it wouldn't be going to these places in the first place. But maybe I'd just be the smartest person in these stories. Somebody went missing you do not investigate unless you're the police. Which is not me knocking down any of the terrific podcast host who have saved lives. But this isn't about that. It's about the horror novels and their insistence on making characters who don't make good decisions.

Don't know that I absolutely despise is Romance. It's such a sap fest. Can't see as to why people bother wasting their time with such things. Very disturbing. Something I've never actually been interested in. I prefer stories with a deeper plot line than just whether or not the MCs get together.

Let's also mention the fact it's totally cliché. Clichés are found in almost all of them. For example the females usually are incapable of helping themselves out. They're always meeting some unrealistic beauty standard, are "plain" people, or wear nothing but dresses all day. The majority of characters get into petty fights or never fight or have no personality at all.

So there's my rant about the types of books I do not read. Neither of which interest me in the least. On the side of spook I prefer mystery read. On the side of romance, only as a subplot and don't make it a huge portion of the story or character arcs. Personally don't add that to my novels.

What is your opinion on these genres?

Do you read these?

Do you write these?

Let me know down in the comments.
