Hello Again! Welcome to the Writing with Sprinkle Community!
This is the place where we chat all things writing and bookish.
Sometimes we talk about our struggles, joys, and advice on writing. Other times, I occasionally leave a book review to boost other writers up and help them grow.
Let's talk Indie publishing!
What being published Indie means?
Being indie published pertains to the route you took to get your novel out into the public view.
It's risky but it can reward you with higher royalties from your sales in comparison to traditionally published work. You might have the con of paying more upfront for your efforts as you'll need to afford printing, marketing, and a good editorial yourself but you don't have to share those rights with anyone.
Typically in Indie publishing, you pay out of pocket for whatever you decide is best for your work.
Recent years Indie published writers are starting to get the credibility they deserve. So much stigma was previously built by the public on how they "couldn't make it in trad publishing and had to do it this way" but that's couldn't be farther from the truth. Some writers choose this path after much consideration and never attempt traditional publishing. Some also have been traditionally published before and just wanted that extra freedom.
The Process of It
It starts out the same for each.
You write that book, edit it, and (good idea) seek professional editing.
Different circumstances come in when you have to format, pick a book cover or design one, and find a place to print it.
Those are options that publishers involved in traditional publishing don't usually give you a say in depending on contract stuff.
It's also a great idea to have sensitivity readers and beta readers involved to get opinions on your work before it gets in the public eye.

If you ever notice any unknown or seemingly untalked about books or authors, give it a try.
